If you would like to donate cloth diapers in Alberta, here's more information on a new cloth diaper lending service based in Medicine Hat! As part of our second annual Choose Your Charity Event, which runs from November 10 to 25, 2013, we're helping to build awareness about cloth diaper charities that collect and distribute new and used cloth diapers to families who need help with the initial costs of purchasing diapers.

Introducing Cloth for a Cause Medicine Hat Chapter, a cloth diaper charity located in southern Alberta. We talked to Helene, who started the chapter, as part of our interview series.

What is your mission?

To provide low income families with a sustainable option to diaper their children.

Which communities do you serve?

We are located in Medicine Hat, Alberta, but I will ship anywhere that is needed.

How many families have you served?

In a few short months, I have already helped 6 families!

How do your clients qualify?

We have a form online they fill out and we go from there. We don't ask for income specifics, just if they have any assistance, what they do for work or their spouse (if applicable), how many children in diapers, etc.

How can others help your cause?

Our chapter really need covers as we have an over abundance of fitted diapers but not enough covers to accommodate. Newborn diapers are always in need as well. We will never turn down a donation, even diapers that need fixing are accepted as I can do small diaper repair if needed.

Why did you get started?

I started because I know how expensive diapering a baby can be, whether it be cloth or disposable. I wanted to help those who are struggling financially to be able to diaper their children without having to worry.
